Cops And Relatives Emergency Support
There should be a disclaimer at the entrance to the Academy parking lot. "Law enforcement work is harmful to your health." Whether it's a fight with an uncooperative suspect, a traffic collision or the inevitable back pains that come with carrying a gun belt 8 to 12 hours a day, everybody knows that police work is taxing on the human body. Far too often, peace officers are injured and incapacitated. And it happens both on and off duty.
When a peace officer gets injured or worse yet, when a peace officer is killed in the line of duty or even off duty, there are enormous, unanticipated costs to the family and friends. For example, if the officer is seriously injured and his or her family lives in another part of the country, the costs for travel alone could exceed credit card limits.
All of us have countless forms of expensive insurance coverage, but insurance doesn't always cover the tremendous expenses associated with the harm that has come to an officer and the welfare of his or her family.
That is why we have created a non-profit, charitable foundation called ALADS C.A.R.E.S. The organization is operated out of the ALADS facility. We started ALADS C.A.R.E.S. with a donation from the ALADS general fund, along with donations from members and friends. We’re confident that fundraising will be sufficient to begin providing support for the families of injured and/or incapacitated officers.
The ALADS C.A.R.E.S. (Cops and Relatives Emergency Support) Foundation is all about taking care of emergent situations. If there is a need, and the request meets our criteria of support for an injured deputy sheriff or district attorney investigator in greater Los Angeles County, our foundation will consider support based on need and the availability of funds. We won't be able to help everybody, but if we make the days following an accident a little easier for the family of a few peace officers, then we've achieved our goals.
ALADS C.A.R.E.S. is something we hope to be one of our proudest moments. Deputies are always in the background, very giving, but seldom receive any recognition. Not this time. ALADS, you the membership will receive the recognition each and every time donations of support are given to a member in need. But, what is even more important is that community donors will be able to donate to you, the member, the L.A. County deputy sheriff and district attorney investigator. Together with our membership and the communities donations we will truly show our members that your ALADS C.A.R.E.S.
To support the ALADS C.A.R.E.S. Foundation, please make donations to ALADS CARES 2 Cupania Circle, Monterey Park, CA 91755. ALADS C.A.R.E.S. is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization (#45-3275658).
