Medical and Dental Coverage
Since 1987, ALADS and Blue Cross have offered health care options that allow our members the freedom to select a health plan that was exclusively designed to meet their unique needs.
ALADS/Blue Cross Prudent Buyer Basic Plan - This indemnity plan, with a PPO option, allows you to see any physician, however, when you use a Blue Cross Preferred Provider (doctor or hospital), you receive a higher level of benefits for covered expenses. You pay a deductible and a percentage of the bill. You do not have to complete claim forms if you use a Preferred Provider. Vision, Radial Keratotomy and prescription benefits are also included.
ALADS/Blue Cross Prudent Buyer Premier Plan - You receive the same medical, vision and prescription benefits as offered by the Prudent Buyer Basic Plan PLUS complete dental and orthodontia benefits. You have the freedom to see any dentist you wish.
ALADS/ Blue Cross CaliforniaCare Basic Plan - This network HMO medical plan allows you to choose different medical groups for each family member, from an extensive network of over 32,000 Physicians and 400 Hospitals. There is a $5.00 co-payment for office visits; no deductibles to meet, and most services are covered at 100%. Claim forms are not used. Vision and prescription benefits are included.
ALADS/Blue Cross CaliforniaCare Premier Plan - You receive the same medical, vision and prescription benefits as provided by CaliforniaCare Basic Plan PLUS complete dental and orthodontia benefits. You have the freedom to see any dentist you wish.
Benefits Unique to ALADS Plans
A unique benefit provided by ALADS in addition to the benefits in the Blue Cross plans is a full body scan available to the Plan member and spouse.
Another unique feature of all of the ALADS Blue Cross Plans is a waiver of premium for eligible ALADS members in the event you are receiving benefits under the PORF Long Term Disability Plan.

Long Term Disability/Life Insurance
In January 1990 ALADS established the Peace Officers' Relief Fund (PORF). This fund was designed to provide you the peace of mind that comes with knowing that income will continue in the event of an injury or illness, on or off-duty. PORF is a benefit that you receive at no cost to you. PORF is entirely funded by the County as a result of salary negotiations with your Bargaining Team.
Specifically, PORF provides two important benefits:
Long-Term Disability Insurance - This benefit pays up to 60% of your pre-disability base salary, a minimum benefit of $100 per month. The monthly benefit amount may be reduced by any other income you receive for the disabling condition. Benefits begin after 90 days of continuous disability, and are payable for the duration of your approved disability up to age 65. Benefits are payable for both on and off the job disabilities.
Life Insurance - The term life insurance benefit is $100,000. Is your beneficiary of record up to date? If not, please call your ALADS Benefit Representative at (800) 842-6635 to request a change of beneficiary form.
Voluntary Group Term Life Insurance
ALADS is pleased to offer its members High Limit Voluntary Term life (VTL) insurance at affordable group rates. You may choose the amount of life insurance that fits your needs. You may also insure your spouse and your children, whether or not you buy coverage for yourself.
You are guaranteed insurance coverage for the following listed amounts if you apply for coverage within 30 days of hire, regardless of your health. Insurance coverage over this "guaranteed issue" amount is subject to medical underwriting.

You may purchase up to five times your annual salary, not to exceed $500,000 for yourself, $150,000 for your eligible spouse and $10,000 for your eligible children.
In the event of your death, benefits will be paid to your named beneficiary.
VTL insurance is exclusively for ALADS members actively working full-time.
Catastrophic Illness and Accident Insurance
ALADS is pleased to offer Cancer, Intensive Care and Accident Insurance coverage through American Family Life Assurance Company (AFLAC). The benefits of these three options are paid directly to you, the member and the policies are offered at low group rates.
AFLAC policies are exclusively for ALADS members actively working full-time.
